SM: WOW! IT’S BEEN A WHILE SINCE YOUR LAST ALBUM, “HOOD ENVIRONMENT”, BUT NOW YOU’RE BACK. TELL US ABOUT WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WORKING ON FOR THE NEXT ALBUM, AND WHEN CAN WE EXPECT IT?
DRAG-ON: I have been working on my album titled “My Life, My Legacy, My Melody”, which you can look for later this year, end of this year. I have a mix-tape out called “The CraZies”, which you can get from www.datpiff.com and be on the lookout for “The CraZies Part 2” droppin’ real soon. My label, Hood Environment, is putting out a Mix-tape Series in order to give back to the streets and the opportunity to have artists on the rise voices heard.
SM: THAT’S WHAT’S GOOD! NOW, YOU RECENTLY FEATURED ON THE “STYLES P” TRACK “GET BUSY”. HOW DID THAT GO DOWN, AND HOW SOON DO YOU PLAN ON RELEASING YOUR FIRST SINGLE TO PROMOTE YOUR PROJECT?
DRAG-ON: The producer from Full Surface called me and asked me to jump on that track with Styles. I have, actually, released a few singles recently. I dropped “Money”, which you can find on “The CraZies Part 1”. I released a track with “Swizz Beats” and my artist from Hood Environment called “Aww Man”…Just working on the mix-tape and tracks for the streets right now since the album is finished.
SM: BET, BET…SO, ARE YOU SIGNED WITH ANY RECORD COMPANIES RIGHT NOW, OR ARE YOU DOING YOUR THING INDEPENDENTLY WITH YOUR “HOOD ENVIRONMENT” LABEL? AND, WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEING AN “INDIE” RECORD COMPANY?
DRAG-ON: We are in a deal with Universal/Fontana. The first Hood Environment album will be a Drag-On album. Hood Environment is my label; I own it and run it, and we do everything ourselves, we put out our own mix-tapes, we go to the DJs directly, pay for everything ourselves. Hood Environment is the New Movement.
SM: WELL, THAT’S GOOD TO KNOW…ALRIGHT, NOW LAST YEAR, EVERYBODY WAS MAD HYPE ABOUT THE “RETURN OF THE RUFF RYDERS” WHEN YOU AND “DMX”, “EVE”, AND EVERYBODY FROM THE ORIGINAL “RUFF RYDERS” APPEARED IN THE REMIX OF THE “JADAKISS” VIDEO “WHO’S REAL?” CAN WE ALL LOOK FORWARD TO A “RUFF RYDERS REUNION”, OR DID YOU GUYS JUST COME TOGETHER FOR THAT ONE PROJECT?
DRAG-ON: I don’t have a comment on a “Ruff Ryders” Reunion; right now, the focus is on Hood Environment and Drag-On.
SM: IT CERTAINLY WOULD BE WHAT’S GOOD IF YA’LL GOT THINGS POPPIN’ AGAIN BECAUSE HIP HOP HASN’T BEEN THE SAME SINCE…NOW, HOW CAN YOUR FANS (AND OUR READERS) KEEP UP WITH WHAT’S GOING ON WITH THE ALBUM SO WE CAN RUN OUT AND COP IT WHEN IT’S RELEASED?
DRAG-ON: To keep up with Drag-on and Hood Environment, you can Follow me on Twitter @OfficialDragOn. I talk to my fans and keep everyone up-to-date on what’s next. Get that “Crazies” mix-tape off of datpiff.com, and watch for “Part 2” coming real soon. “My Life, My Legacy, My Melody” will be out end of this year, so stay tuned.
